We recommend the use of UPCO Circumferential Displacement Gauges to achieve proper make-up. We supply a different Gauge for every Rod Type with New and Rerun Displacement. Torque alone is not an acceptable practice.

UPCO provides either Type T or Spray Metal rod couplings with superb dimensional consistency. Beginning with cold drawn, AISI 1045M bar stock, UPCO couplings are machined to API 11B specifications. The threads are applied through cold forming and the couplings are black oxide coated to reduce thread galling and to protect the coupling from atmospheric corrosion.

 

For enhanced resistance to abrasion and corrosion the high quality T couplings are flame sprayed with a nickel - chromium powdered metal coating. With UPCO couplings you are
getting the BEST.

UPCO Polished Rods are quality at its best. We start with special quality AISI steel alloy rods that are cold finished, straightened, and eddy current inspected, then stored and handled with padded racks and fabric slings.

 

The pin ends are machined by applying cold rolled threads. The rods are polished by the use of centerless grinders which provide a cylindrical bar with less variation in diameter or concentricity.

 

A special marine coating is then applied to the rods. Each rod is packaged in a waxed ID tube to prevent atmospheric damage and metal thread protectors are attached. For ocean transit or tropical environments the rods are packed in a sealed plastic sleeve.

Stuffing Box

Ratigan #176 Stuffing Box -- And Parts

Ratigan #175 and 176 are the only self-oiling stuffing boxes on the market receiving their lubrication directly from the pumping well. The #176 box has a shut-off feature, while the #175 box was not designed with this in mind.

 

These stuffing boxes are made of high-pressure electric steel and have a pressure capacity of 3000 lbs. The inner parts are bronze, which eliminates any possibility of scoring the polish rod. The spacer, plate insert, and cap bushing are all bronze for this purpose.

 

When repacking the box, tighten the screws evenly in the shutoff, but be sure to loosen the screws before the well starts to pump. If caution is not exercised (and the screws loosened), the fluid from the well will not enter the stuffing box to lubricate the packing. Replace both #176-4 rubbers when repacking the box.

 

We have improved the quality of the #176-4 rubbers so that they will wear considerably longer. Experiments have proven that this rubber is superior to any previous rubber, and will outwear any rubber on the market. We make four types of rubbers: plain, teflon insert, lead impregnated, and high-temperature.

Ratigan #212-15 Blowout Preventer

Ratigan has designed this blowout preventer for maximum safety and convenience in operation. Manufactured of high-pressure electric steel, it is comparatively light in weight, of high capacity, and is equipped with retractable rubbers. The #212 is an ideal tool for swabbing or running rods in wells that head or flow in the course of operation.


Two of these blowout preventers of the same size, with a nipple of any required length in between, make a very efficient unit for swabbing. 


The rubbers are changed very quickly by unscrewing the plugs at each end and replacing the used rubbers.


Ratigan manufactures a rubber with a 3/8" groove to shutoff on any sucker rod 5/8" to 1" inclusive, and on any polish rod up to and including 1-1/4" size. Another rubber with a larger groove will shutoff on 1-1/2" polish rod. Ratigan also stocks a special rubber to fit 1.66", 1.75", and 1.9" OD tubing and a blank rubber for use with wire lines.


Ratigan manufactures the blowout preventer in 2", 2-1/2", and 3" sizes. All blowout preventer sizes are manufactured in both Male x Female and Double Female configuration, with the 2" and 2-1/2" being available in Upset or Non-Upset threads.

Tubing Pump

The oversize tubing pump was designed for the maximum size pump in a given size casing. The internally threaded barrel has flush-type end fittings and can be connected directly to the tubing string. The top fitting is normally swaged down to a tubing size that is smaller than the pump bore. The complete pump is run into the well on the tubing string. The sucker rods are run into the well in the conventional manner and attached to the pump by means of an (on-off) tool. If pin type plungers are needed, we offer (plain pin) or (monel pin) plungers with required fittings. 

 

 

Polished Rod Clamps

All Skinner Clamps are forged from high-grade, heat treated steel.Bolts are cadmium plated. Hinge pins are 4140 heat treated steel.The clamping surface of each Skinner clamp is bored and reamedto the exact size of the polished rod. Additionally, both endsare machine-squared with the hole to prevent eccentric loadingif the hanger bar is flat. The Skinner clamp exerts a 2:1 mechanicaladvantage in the ratio of distance from the center of the rod to thecenter of the bolt and from the center of the rod to the center of thepin. Contact areas are spaced to give maximum clamping effect.
